GOLDEN, ANNA ELIZABETH--Edward
L. WILLIAMS
Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Golden, wife
of S. D. (sic) Golden and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hendricks, died
very suddenly Monday morning at her home in this City. She was not
in the best of health but no one thought of her condition being serious
in the least and when the news spread from house to house at an early hour
Monday morning that Mrs. Golden was dead, it was a shock to the people.
She had for some time been aflicted with a bad cough but had readily yielded
to treatment and everyone thought she would live for many years to come.
During the night Sunday night she had a bad coughing spell but after taking
one dose of cough medicine she again fell asleep as did Mr. Golden, and
slept until 4 o'clock Monday morning when she was seized with another spell,
and this attack failed to yield to medicine and she died in about fifteen,
before the doctor could reacher her though he lived but a block or two
away. Mrs. Golden was born in the State of Alabama Oct 21st, 1872,
and was therefore 41years old last October. She was married to S.
E. Golden in 1888, to which union ten children were born and were all present
at some time during the time the family was passing through through the
sad ordeal. She leaves a fathful mother, one sister, three brothers
and a husband and ten children, four of whom are married and six at home,
to mourn her departure, but they sorrow not as those who have no hope.
Mrs. Golden was a good christian woman having been a faithful and true
member of the Methodist church since she was 12 years old, and in all the
checkered scenes of life through which she was called to pass, she never
wavered in her religious life, but remained true and faithful until she
was called to enter the church above. The last words she spoke were:
"The Lord has called for me and I am ready to go." and fell asleep in Jesus.
The funeral service was conducted in the Methodist church on March 2nd,
by her old friend, W. V. Jones, in the presence of a large crowd of sympathizing
friends. At the close of the service at the church the remains were
borne to the Riverside Cemetery where they were gently laid to rest to
await the resurrection day. All who knew Mrs. Golden could join in
saying that a good woman has been translated from this world of sorrow
and stife to the Country where sorrow is unknown, and where it is eternal
day. The Record joins the many friends in extended sympathy to the
bereaved family and relatives.
Notes: Anna was the daughter of Willis Hardick
& Sarah Ann (Cox) Hendricks.
She married Seaborn Emory Golden on Nov 26,
1888, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama.

Sarah or Grannie as she was forever called was born March
9, 1842 in Cahaiba, Selma County Alabama. Early in life she professed
faith in Christ and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and
ever afterwards remained a Christian and loyal member. She was frank
and positive in her convictions but she always exercised a loving spirit
which had good results. Grannie was exceptionally full of life and
jolly for one so advanced in years and physical liabilities. Though

like a tried soldier of the cross. She seldom got to attend church
but her faith always remained unshaken. At her only daughter's house
at Hico, Texas, Aug 17, 1919, Granny Hendricks pure spirit took its flight
and winged itself back to God who gave it. Her remains were brought
here and laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. May the good father
of all comfort her aged companion the three sons and the daughter who were
left behind to morn their loss. H. A. Nichols, Pastor, Iredell, Texas

HOLLINGSWORTH, JOHN FRANKLIN, JR.--Cathy
SHELLEY
Clifton Record; Tuesday, March 18, 2003
Funeral services were held for John Franklin
Hollingsworth, Jr., 78, of Clifton, on Friday, March 14, 2003, at First
Baptist Church of Clifton, with the Rev. Jerry Smith
officiating. Hollingsworth was born on June 25, 1924, in Hillsboro,
to John Franklin Hollingsworth, Sr. and Gussie White
Hollingsworth. He passed away on Monday, March 10, 2003.
Hollingsworth grew up in Houston where his father owned
a retail clothing store. He was baptized and became a member of
the Second Baptist Church of Houston. It was there in
the youth group that he met his wife to be, Mary Jane Shambaugh. He
attended Lamar High School in Houston and the University
of Texas at Austin. It was at UT that he and Shambaugh became
more than friends. They were married on Oct. 2, 1943
in Houston. For the first few years of their marriage, he worked as a
roughneck in the oil patch, helped on ranches, and did
whatever needed to be done to make a living. They moved from place
to place, making stops in Ozona, Montgomery, Ala., and
finally ending up in Fort Worth. He was employed as Menâs clothing
sales representative, and his territory was Kansas, but
his home was in Texas. Two daughters, Jane and Melinda, were born to the
marriage. The girls grew up in East Fort Worth where they attended Eastern
Hills High School and where the family were active members of Sagamore
Hills Baptist Church. In 1958, Hollingsworth opened a men’s store in
Richardson. It was here that he found his joy. He loved waiting on the
customers and making sales. He was a “people person” who could at home
with anyone,
regardless of social class, ethnicity, or educational
status. Mary Jane worked as a bookkeeper and business manager and he
ran the front end of the store. Together they made a
wonderful team. In 1965, they began to see more of their life-long
dream fulfilled. They bought a place in Bosque County,
between Clifton and Cranfills Gap. He added ranching to his work
schedule and they made the weekend trips to the farm
to keep things going. In 1971 they moved to the farm and began to build
a
home. John continued to work in the store until he retired
and Mary Jane kept active on the farm working outdoors, feeding
the cattle, and planting a garden. In 1989, she became
sick and for the following six years, until her death, she was
confined indoors, primarily in bed. John became an ardent
servant to her needs and the two who started out as childhood
friends ended their earthly vows through sickness and
health, and for better or worse. He enjoyed making the rounds
visiting friends from the VFW, the auto parts store,
to Bertelsen’s, to the Dairy Queen, and other places that he
frequented. He will always be remembered for his friendliness,
humor, and his laugh. Survivors include his daughters, Jane
Scott and husband, Jim Scott, and Melinda Tripp and husband,
Gary Tripp; grandchildren, Eric Scott, Ginny Twarowski,
