William Attaway MORRIS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      CSA Pension file of my great grandfather, William Attaway Morris, who died in Bosque County,  filed by his widow, Nancy
Charlotta (Taylor) MORRIS.  The witnesses were Zachariah Taylor MORRIS and Mason C. MORRIS, William's brothers.
      William served on the gunboat, Savannah, until it floundered near Fort Pulaski, Georgia, in August, 1863, during a Union
blockade and attack.  He was one of 28 sailors that escaped being captured (15 were taken prisoner).  William then joined
Robert E. Lee's forces in Virginia until the surrender at Appomattox.
